What Does ‘Duck, Duck, Jeep’ Mean?

Duck duck jeep game

Jeep owners have long had a special wave to share their camaraderie with one another, but that wasn’t enough. Enthusiasts had to go a step further and create a fun game involving rubber ducks. What is Duck, Duck, Jeep, and how did the rubber ducks become a staple for the SUV owners?

In this guide, I cover all of the bases you are wondering about. Not only do I explain what the ducks are doing on Jeeps, but I show you how to play the fun game if you want to get involved. I also outline how the fun game began and what caused it to start.

What is Duck, Duck, Jeep?

Jeep Ducking results in rubber ducks being placed on other peoples’ Jeep vehicles. There aren’t many rules to the game, other than you need to place rubber ducks on other Jeeps. The goal is to cause another Jeep owner to smile.

To play this game, you will want to have a bag of ducks with you and place them on any other Jeeps you find. Of course, there are some creative ways to play this game, and you can learn more by following local Facebook groups or other Jeep groups.

The main goal is to connect the Jeep community to one another. You can even use it as an opportunity to promote your local business to Jeep owners. The possibilities are limitless as to the level of advertising you can put on the small rubber ducks.

How Did Jeep Ducking Start?

The Jeep Wave has been around since WW2, when soldiers would give each other a “V,” standing for victory. However, Jeep Ducking takes the classic wave a step further, allowing for even more connection.

During COVID-19, Allison Parliament, who was living in Alabama, decided to go home to Ontario, Canada, to be with her family. In June 2020, she made the 20-hour drive home. Before she arrived there, she needed to stop for some fuel.

A man noticed her United State license plates and physically assaulted her. Allison was grabbed and shoved into her Jeep, creating severe trauma. Instead of staying stuck, she chose to turn the incident into a way to encourage Jeep owners.

When visiting a small shop in the area, she found a bag of rubber ducks. At first, she planned to use the ducks by leaving them around her cousin’s house to torture him. However, on her way out of the shop, she noticed another Jeep. She wrote a “nice Jeep” note on a duck and left it on the SUV.

The stranger caught Allison in the act and the two had a good laugh about it. After this, Allison knew that she had to magnify this event to hit more Jeeps.

By July 2020, Allison had created a Duck Duck Jeep Instagram page, as well as the Official Ducking Jeeps Facebook page. Within one month, these social media pages had over 10,000 followers, showing that others were interested in sharing joy.

Today, the Facebook page continues to grow, with more than 50,000 members. It is the only page actively working with Jeep, so you need to be careful who you follow, as there are tons of knock-offs.

Now, the Jeep Ducking phenomenon has grown worldwide, with Jeep owners everywhere focused on random acts of kindness. What’s most impressive is how Allison turns the small profit she receives into blessings. She put everything made from the social media accounts towards a charity that supplies teachers with the gear needed in their classrooms. It seems this remarkable young woman is always thinking about others.

How to Play Duck, Duck Jeep

1. Buy Ducks

Before you can get started, you need to make sure you have plenty of ducks on hand. You can buy rubber ducks at most retailers, including the dollar stores. You can also buy them in bulk online, such as places like Amazon.

Have fun with the ducks you choose so you can stand out from the traditional ones. If you own a business, you might also consider having them branded with your information. Otherwise, feel free to put a happy slogan on the ducks.

2. Mark Ducks

Aside from having your brand or a saying on the duck, you need to also label them for social media exposure. There are two hashtag tags being used.

You should label them with #duckingjeeps. Also, don’t forget to use #duckduckjeep too. With these hashtags, you tell the recipient of the ducks how to post the pictures on social media for others to see.

3. Put Duck on a Jeep

When the time comes to place your duck, you need to be careful where you put it. Find a Jeep and look for a responsible location.

You want it to be somewhere that the owner can easily see it. However, the rubber ducks could melt in extreme temperatures, so don’t place them anywhere that’s subject to engine heat.

4. Post Pictures Online

Snap a few pictures of the rubber duck on the Jeep. If it’s your Jeep, you want to share these pictures online to encourage others.

You can place them in one of the groups we described above. Just make sure you apply the hashtag so everyone can find you.

5. Have a Good Time

Above all else, it’s important to have a good time while you do it. This game was meant to be fun and help you connect with other Jeep enthusiasts around the nation.

It’s important not to take yourself too seriously. If you get ducked, try not to be upset. Instead, see it as a sweet gesture, with someone taking time out of their busy schedule to encourage and uplift you. In return, you should pay it forward with more ducks sent out to other Jeep owners.

Can any Jeep play duck duck Jeep?

Yes. There are no official rules in Jeep Ducking so any Jeep model can be in the game. However, people with Jeep Wranglers are more likely to “duck” other Wranglers, so it’s definitely easier to join if you have a Jeep Wrangler.

You can include whatever you want on the duck duck jeep tag, but you probably want to include the hashtags #duckduckjeep and #duckingjeeps. You can also leave a personal message to the owner if you want.

Is Jeep ducking just for Wranglers?

No. Jeep Ducking can be done for any Jeep model these days, but it all started and is still most popular with Wranglers. There are no official rules for Jeep ducking, so you can join in and do as you like.

How do I get my Jeep ducked?

There is no specific way to get your Jeep ducked. But Jeep Wranglers are more prone to getting ducked, so to increase your chances you want one of these. You also want to park in large parking lots in areas where the game exists.
